Direct Sales Training and Direct Network Marketing and Big Mistakes
“Selling” is one of the worst things you can do when representing a product or service.
The purpose of this article is to save the masses from, arguably, the biggest mistake that can be made in network marketing. For that matter, the content of this article applies to all sales in general. This may not make me very popular among those who sell books on sales training, but I’m going to take that chance.
The definition of “selling” has evolved into something very undesirable. The best example is the much persecuted “Used Car Salesperson.” My apologies to those legitimate professionals that operate with integrity. Selling, as we now know it, has become a process of convincing others against their will. Out and out manipulation! There is a great quote “Those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still”. I don’ know where it came from but it is absolutely true.
If you learn nothing else from this article please focus on this definition. Selling is the art of communication with purpose. It is one thing to try and convince others and quite another to exchange honest needs and desires for the purpose of finding a match. Go back and read that sentence a couple hundred times and you will get the idea. Wisdom dictates that our job in direct sales is more “match making” than selling.
You will be wealthy beyond belief if you just follow this formula. The motivational speaker, Zig Zigler, put it best. “You can have anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.” You must find out what people want. The last time I checked, the best way to do that is to ask questions. Try this question for starters. “What are you looking for?” WOW! This is too simple. Throwing up on your prospects with everything you know gets a little ugly and it does not work.
The principles of sales and marketing don’t change based on the market you are in. However I would like to focus specifically on network marketing for a moment. If you are involved in network marketing, or you would like to be, you have a responsibility that turns into a genuine blessing. The responsibility is to insure that your downline understands some basic “do’s and don’ts” in sharing the product and opportunity. The blessing is that you have a downline that is going to help a lot of people, and you will make a boat load of money by helping others prosper.
Critical steps in the “Sales” process:
- Determine who your market is.
- Determine where to find your target market.
- Get their attention.
- Ask the question. (This process is referred to as qualifying)
- Share the solution.
- Ask another question. (IMPORTANT! Are you ready, willing and able?)
If you would like to hear more on this subject I invite you to check out my video with the same title. In this video I will do two things. I will share the secret that makes this work. And I will share a strategy that will automate this process so that it works for you 24/7.
